I want a career. A long lasting well paid career, which defined by the Webster dictionary as “an occupation undertaken for a significant period of a person’s life and with opportunities for progress.”  Being a lawyer, Advertising, Top Executives, Physicians, Administrative Services Managers, and a stockbroker. These are all legitimate career options I may want to explore and pursue in life. Because of these high profile career options and the determination I would have to focus on makes me believe that I would be successful in life. To start, saying you want to be a lawyer is a broad term because of the very wide of spectrum law has in career options. For me a business lawyer is a serious path in that spectrum I would want to follow. What business law consists of according to http://legalcareerpath.com/what-is-business-law is ” laws that govern the dealings between people and commercial matters… regulation of commercial entities through laws of partnership, company, bankruptcy, and agency and the second is regulation of the commercial transactions through the laws of contract. ” this describes the career of business law. Working with large corporations and dealing with contracts is what really interests me about this career choice and is something is a goal i may want to strive towards. In order to achieve this some qualifications to become a corporate lawyer consists of according to  http://work.chron.com/educational-requirements-corporate-lawyer-11615.html   is  “All students must complete a bachelor’s degree before entering law school.” some more special education you need is “Law school typically consists of three years of full-time study, with all students completing the same curriculum during the first year. Typical first-year courses include civil procedure, contracts, constitutional law, criminal and property law, torts and legal writing.” furthermore “After graduating from n law school with a Juris Doctor degree, students must take and pass the state bar exam before being allowed to practice law. Specific requirements vary by state. Many states accept the Multistate Bar Examination standardized test. ” and finally  “All attorneys must complete continuing education courses to maintain their bar and continue to legally practice law. Specific requirements vary by state.” These are the special education, qualities and qualifications that are necessary to be successful in this type of career. Some other careers that could be done with the same qualifications is a criminal defense lawyer which is something i may also want to pursue because it is something that interests me very much. And because it is part of that same spectrum if law i can decide which way i would want to go because it has all the same requirements as any other kind of lawyer. According to  https://www.payscale.com/research/US/Job=Corporate_Lawyer/Salary   the entry level salary for a corporate lawyer is $58,977 while the top of field corporate lawyer salary ranges it is usually around $212,298 or above. These types of high paying salary makes sense because of the type of hours they put in. According to   http://www.businessinsider.com/the-worst-part-about-being-a-corporate-lawyer-2013-11.  corporate lawyers work 50 to an 100 hour weeks in non flexible hours but if they are with a client that is billable hours. In this line of work there is a lot of room for growth because when you first get into the business you are a associate and throughout the time you would be working their you can get promotions all the way up to making partner. This shows very much growth in this career path. There are many advantages of being a corporate lawyer, one of them is the financial rewards which is very good incentive, another is the argue and debate side of things and for me i personally love to argue so this is good advantage for me,  furthermore the skills that transfer for being a lawyer is something that interests me because being tied down isn’t always a good thing, with being a lawyer there are many options. Three disadvantages for being a corporate lawyer are the high stress levels, long hours, and competitive work environment which isn’t for some people. This shows this kind of job isn’t for everyone. I think i would be very successful in this career because i am a very hardworking person and if i set my mind to something there is nothing stopping me from achieving my goal.To continue a career in advertising is something i also find very interesting to me and a serious career path i may want to pursue and explore that path. According to https://www.bls.gov/ooh/management/advertising-promotions-and-marketing-managers.htm         “Advertising and marketing managers plan programs to generate interest in products or services. They work with art directors, sales agents, and financial staff members.”  This is basically what a advertising career is. This career interests me because of the type of ideas and a certain type of creativity i have and enjoy using that suits me best. Some special qualifications that you need for this career according to the same source is an “A bachelor’s degree. For advertising management positions, some employers prefer a bachelor’s degree in advertising or journalism.”  Also for this career choice creativity, communication skills,  and analytical skills are very important to be successful  in advertising.  Some other careers that may be related and options to me is a marketing manager. A marketing manager requires  has the same qualifications and skills as an advertising career does and because of the decision making skills you would need for this is why it may be a path i would want to explore as well as advertising. The path for advertising in this kind of career is not a difficult one because all you need is a bachelor degree which any four year university can get you. The salary range for this career at entry level is $85,500 but with hardwork and determination the the highest 10 percent earned more than $208,000.  As for the hours is you make as much as you work. According to https://www.thebalance.com/what-to-expect-in-an-advertising-career-38625     long hours is just part of the job and its the product you produce is what really determines  if you can go home that night. In this career their is very much room for growth. Some advantages for working in advertising are the social environment, learning opportunity, and get to focus on what’s important. For me these things are very important in what i want in a career. But also there are  some disadvantages like the numerous hours that have to be worked, deadlines, and the high workload. Because of these disadvantages makes me wonder if it is worth pursuing this career option, but compared with the advantages it would be worth the risk.  I think that i would be very successful in this career and is something i will seriously considering chasing after.Furthermore another career i would want to pursue is being a top executive. This career interests me because “Top executives devise strategies and policies to ensure that an organization meets its goals. They plan, direct, and coordinate operational activities of companies and organizations.” According to https://www.bls.gov/ooh/management/top-executives.htm   Some qualifications   i would need for this career according to the same source is that “Many top executives have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in business administration or in an area related to their field of work. Top executives in the public sector often have a degree in business administration, public administration, law, or the liberal arts. Top executives of large corporations often have a master’s degree in business administration. College presidents and school superintendents are typically required to have a master’s degree, although a doctorate is often preferred.” because of these strict required qualifications i would need to become a top executive i would need to work hard and do my best in order to complete this goal. Another career choice that is similar to being a top executive is being a administrative service manager, they both require a bachelor degree in order do this that kind of career.  The type of path to do this kind if job is to Establish and carry out departmental or organizational goals, policies, and procedures.  A staring executive may make a salary of  $69,780 or more while a top executive may make $208,000 or more. Top executives have very flexible hours and use the 9 to 5 as guidelines rather than a set time to follow. In This career there is  room for growth by becoming a chief executive.  Some advantages of being a top executive is that you can decide what’s important and isn’t,  you can hair a team and the people you want to work with, and you are your own boss no one bosses the top executive around. Some disadvantages is that you may have to work harder than ever to keep this major position, you have to manage everyone, and you are overwhelmed with the workload. I do not think i would be successful in this career because to me the disadvantages beat the advantages and it’s not for me.Works Citedhinative.com. N.p., n.d. Web. 1 Feb. 2018..legalcareerpath.com.
